Tricia DeWeese has had a love for art and painting ever since she was a young girl. In college she studied engineering and then worked as a technical engineer at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine. In 1985 she had the opportunity to fulfill her passion and returned to school for her degree in fine arts. She has continued her studies in local classes and in workshops with artists such as Frank Webb, Skip Lawrence, Judi Betts, and Gerald Brommer to name a few. She created and directed the After School Enrichment program for Bonsall Elementary School, Bonsall, California. Tricia has taught at the American School of Madrid, Spain; Fairfax County Adult Education; and continues to teach private students and small group classes in her studio. She has also begun teaching watercolor workshops on her limited palette techniques.
Tricia DeWeese is a member of Potomac Valley Watercolorists and a signature member of the Baltimore Watercolor Society. She has been juried into regional, national, and international art shows; including shows such as the Women Artists of the West, the National Watercolor Society, and the Mid-Atlantic Watercolor exhibitions. Tricia has won numerous awards, such as the Alexander Nepote Purchase Prize for "experimental painting on the cutting edge" at the 2007 National Watercolor Society exhibition. In élan magazine, an article about Tricia described her art as:
"The human heartbeat is the essence of what comes
through in every one of Tricia's portraits, intuitive paintings
that extend beyond the photorealistic to give voice to her
subjects."
She also was selected for Watercolor magazine's 25th anniversary edition as one of twenty emerging artists of North America.
Tricia DeWeese's art career is flourishing. Her talent has been recognized by her peers and the art community. She continues to experiment with her art and is always trying to expand her capabilities. Though Tricia has established herself as an accomplished artist, she is always searching for new techniques and styles to try to satisfy her interests in mastering all aspects of her craft.
